SmartSens Announces 8.3MP High-Performance CMOS Image Sensor for Automotive Cameras

2026-1-15

Shanghai, China, January 15, 2026 SmartSens Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (SSE STAR MARKET: 688213), a technologically advanced CMOS image sensor supplier, recently announced SC860AT, an 8.3-MegaPixel (MP) CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) of SmartSens Automotive Sensor Series. Developed upon CARSens®-XR Gen 2 platform, SC860AT adopts single pixel architecture, and integrates SmartSens' advanced technologies including Lofic HDR®2.0 and SFCPixel®. It supports AB-Exposure™ dual-frame exposure control and has significant advantages in high frame rate, high sensitivity, and high dynamic range. Besides, SC860AT is compliant with ISO 26262 ASIL-B and ISO 21434. Therefore, SC860AT can meet the imaging upgrade requirements of automotive front view, side view, rear view, Occupancy Monitoring System (OMS), and Electronic Rearview Mirror cameras.

Main features

AB-Exposure™ dual-frame exposure control function

SC860AT supports a high frame rate of 45fps and AB-Exposure™ dual-frame exposure control function. SC860AT can independently set different exposure parameters for frame A and frame B, which helps automotive cameras to output clear and complete high-frame-rate visual images in all-day and all-scene conditions.

In AB-Exposure™ dual-frame exposure control mode, frame A can be set to a long fixed exposure time (>10ms), which is used to capture the flickering signals of LED lights such as traffic lights and road signs, ensuring to capture continuous and complete images. Frame B can be set to an automatic exposure time. When encountering with strong-light scenes or moving vehicles and pedestrians, the exposure time is reduced to effectively suppress overexposure and motion blur, thus achieving high-quality images.

CARSens®-XR Gen 2 platform

Built on the advanced SmartSens’ CARSens®-XR Gen 2 platform, SC860AT adopts Stacked BSI architecture and Stack MIM capacitor process, which achieves excellent performance such as high dynamic range and low noise, thus effectively improving image quality. Moreover, SC860AT also has cost-effective advantages and a stable supply chain system. It effectively meets the customers' demands for high-quality automotive CIS products and reliable supply services.

Lofic HDR®2.0 technology

Adopting single pixel architecture, SmartSens’ advanced Lofic HDR®2.0 and SFCPixel® technologies, SC860AT resolves issues such as pixel crosstalk and color distortion, achieving high sensitivity and low noise. It delivers bright and clear images for automotive cameras in low-light conditions.

Besides, based on SmartSens’ Lofic HDR®2.0 + VS 4-frame HDR technology, SC860AT achieves a dynamic range of up to 140dB, enabling cameras to capture clear images with highlight and shadow details in complex lighting environments. In Lofic HDR®2.0 mode, by combining three frames of different gains at the same exposure, SC860AT achieves high dynamic range imaging without motion blur, thereby contributing to improving the accuracy of detection and recognition of automotive cameras.

LED Flicker Suppression (LFS)

SC860AT employs SmartSens’ LED Flicker Suppression (LFS) technology, which effectively resolves the image flicker caused by LED lights and provides automotive cameras with stable and clear images.

Multiple packages

SC860AT adopts an iBGA package. Compared with the conventional CSP package, the iBGA package of SC860AT is based on improved Ball Grid Array structure, delivering superior thermal stability, electrical performance, mechanical stress resistance and a lower DPPM failure rate. It effectively reduces the risks of package warpage and solder joint fatigue. With the support of iBGA package, CIS can pass a series of rigorous reliability tests, including temperature cycling test, mechanical shock test, vibration test and operating life test, etc., thus providing safe and reliable CIS images for ADAS applications. In addition, SC860AT also supports RW and COB packages, offering customers diverse and flexible product options.

Mr. Kevin Shao, General Manager of Automotive Business Group at SmartSens Technology said, “ Developed upon SmartSens CARSens®-XR Gen 2 platform and multiple innovative technologies, SC860AT has significant advantages in high frame rate, high sensitivity, high dynamic range and adopts iBGA package, providing clear and stable images for automotive cameras. As a high-performance automotive-grade CIS, SC860AT has both performance and cost advantages, providing customers with a high-quality and reliable product choice. Moreover, SC860AT and SmartSens 3MP CIS can cover advanced 11V and 7V ADAS visual solutions, enabling automotive cameras to clearly perceive and recognize the surrounding environments. In the future, SmartSens will continue to deepen cooperation with supply chain partners and ensure high-quality and reliable automotive visual imaging products and supply services, thereby facilitating continuous development of diverse automotive applications such as ADAS and in-cabin cameras.”

SC860AT is sampling now and will be mass-produced in Q2 2026. For more information or to request a sample, please contact SmartSens Sales Representatives: cs@smartsenstech.com
